Hi
Im getting this error on my new desktop PC, which is being configured like my current laptop PC. Both windows 11. Everything working on the laptop. Check out the code, build, run - everything works on the laptop, but not on the desktop.
Im using the LLBLGen ORM which requires the "smallest" devart dotConnect for MySQL - I have a license for the Standard version. As far as I recall, I only have to install the dcmysql94std.exe package, and everything works. However, on the new laptop, I have accidentally just downloaded the latest dcmysql102.exe and installed that one, and then also the entity developer to try it out. Maybe that has caused something? All versions have been uninstalled and only the 9.4 standard is now installed, I still get the error. I don't understand what license I should need to have anywhere.
On the laptop (where everything works), there is no license.licx file in the project, and there is no call to a static method to activate a license. Also, I dont recall having "activated" anything during install of that machine some months back.
To take things in a somewhat logical order:
1) do I need a license to JUST run the mysql provider for my compiled ASP.NET code? I assume not.
2) if, for some reason, the 9.4 std version IS licensed/activated somehow on my laptop, can you guide me as how to see how?
I use VS 2026 (no Tools > MySQL menu item), but on the laptop also have VS 2022 (with Tools > MySQL menu item). Opening the "License information" for my solution states for all projects "License is not needed. The library does not have reference to Devart.Data.MySql." I have no direct references to Devart.* and use no Devart nuget packages.
3) Do I need to completely clean my new desktop pc for any trace of devart before this will work?
My machine.config on both machines contains
<system.data>
<DbProviderFactories>
<add name="dotConnect for MySQL" invariant="Devart.Data.MySql"
description="Devart dotConnect for MySQL" type="Devart.Data.MySql.MySqlProviderFactory, Devart.Data.MySql, Version=9.4.290.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=09af7300eec23701" />
</DbProviderFactories>
</system.data>
Uninstalling the Devart dotConnect for MySQL Standard 9.4.290.0 then gives me an expected error:
SD.LLBLGen.Pro.ORMSupportClasses.ORMGeneralOperationException: None of the factories in the list of 'Devart.Data.MySql' were found. Please check machine.config and the .NET version your application is running on.
as the machine.config system.data > DbProviderFactories element is now empty.
Reinstalling reverts to the original "License not found".
As suggested by Claude, I have tried to
uninstall 9.4 std
clear C:\Program Files (x86)\Devart\dotConnect\MySQL
clear C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Devart\dotConnect
clear C:\Program Files\Common Files\Devart\dotConnect
clear C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Devart.Data\
clear C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Devart.Data.MySql\
clear C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Devart.Data\
clear C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Devart.Data.MySql\
with gacutil -l verify that no devart.* or policy.nn.devart.* was still there
Then reinstall 9.4 std
verify that only the expected 9.4 assemblies and GAC listings are present:
Devart.Data, Version=6.0.290.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=09af7300eec23701, processorArchitecture=MSIL
Devart.Data.MySql, Version=9.4.290.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=09af7300eec23701, processorArchitecture=MSIL
... cut for brevity...
policy.8.9.Devart.Data.MySql, Version=9.4.290.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=09af7300eec23701, processorArchitecture=MSIL
policy.9.0.Devart.Data.MySql, Version=9.4.290.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=09af7300eec23701, processorArchitecture=MSIL

and files
e.g.

"C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Devart.Data\6.0.290.0__09af7300eec23701\Devart.Data.dll"
"C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Devart.Data.MySql\9.4.290.0__09af7300eec23701\Devart.Data.MySql.dll"
are present with expected 9.4 version numbers.
What to do?
